Yep Cresswell was a beast last night, worked his socks off and often isn't credited with the amount of aerial battles he wins. But his positioning and build up play is as good or better than any in that team.

At times last night it was like watching Barcelona (seriously), though Burnley's ultra-high press was suicidal against a team that can counter-attack as well as us

Lanzini, Fornals, Antonio and Benrahma (until he tired and was subbed just at the right time) were excellent. Coufal was better than excellent. My MOM, though, was Cresswell - my God we miss him when he isn't there.

Hats off to Moyes, too, for his selection and tactics. That's how you beat the dregs and also-rans. He must have been having kittens over all those spurned chances, though. It seemed to me he had told Lingard and Benrahma to be less selfish and that actually back-fired a bit.

I was seriously impressed with Mankini and Fornals last night, they worked so hard and kept making us play football.

The only player who was relatively quiet (by his own standards) was Lingard.

It was good to see Lanzini play a full 90 minutes last night (probably the only time so far this season.) Dev of course had a similar injury and was never quite the same player having lost that yard or so of pace. However he did adapt his game and was at the fore front of the boy's of 86. And yes we may now inadvertently have found a new position for Lanzini.

Dawson's looked more a
Of a liability lately because we started giving him the ball a lot more and asking him to play it rather than lump it away.

That happened because we were playing noble, who loves a back pass and won't ever play that forward ball that Lanzini was prepared to yesterday.

Take that need for Dawson to keep recieving and spreading the ball around the backline away, and he'll be good.

It was exactly the same with Collins. Let the defenders defend.

Dawson is good in games like last night where there's going to be a physical battle and he's going to need to cut out crosses or get his head to things.

Put him up against pace and / or skill he's probably the worst of our centre backs that we have.

Definitely takes a new level of tragic shithousery to spend all season turbo posting about how shit Benrahma is then comically go missing since last nights game

i was most happy to see Aaron CRESSWELL as our Captain

I thiunk Dawson has been far more of a liability the last month or so rather than Diop... he had a bit of a shaky start yesterday but pulled it around nicely... don't think he's done too much wrong when been asked to do a job... I mean he's hardly fucking Gary Strodder is he....

Diop is a liability would be happy to see him go in the Summer to free up some money.
Two years ago he was probably worth £40m.
Now about 12.

Agree with that. Well put.

Interesting to see if we have stumbled on a new position for Lanzini. He was excellent last night.

Moyes said in the post match press conference that Lanzini can't do some of the things he could before his injury which has been pretty obvious given how he's played since.

Maybe stuff like beating players and getting past defenders isn't something he can do as well or as quickly as before. But a more deeper lying role, retaining possession and starting the play from midfield might be his gig from now on.

Before the game a lot including myself were worried about McNeil

How good was Coufal?
How many balls did coufal put in and how many did McNeill put in?

Can't believe Antonio nicked Benrahma's goal. His cross was definitely going in. :)

It's really harsh towards Nobes but i can't help but think we'd have struggled yesterday if it was him in that Lanzini role..

According to Whoscored (taken as gospel by some), Diop was our second best rated player last night

A kind of symmetry last night as it was against Burnley at home with the crowd trouble that Noble was done for me.

Then against Burnley, thanks to Lanzini giving a genuine alternative in Midfield he could be done for Moyes too

Henry surprised me with the quality of his punditry last night - great shout comparing Coufal to Zabaleta in style.

Noble has had a brilliant career with West Ham, but I don’t think it’s a betrayal to say that his legs are gone now, and he doesn’t naturally fit into the way we play under Moyes. Doesn’t take away from years of good service previously.

LilyH - Great post, if we continue playing like that there is no reason why we cannot win the remaining matches. Just hope we can steer clear of messrs Oliver, Dean and Moss in any officiating capacity.

Worth adding I thought last nights ref was great, allowed the game to flow without being at all fussy, well done!

"even with injuries"

This goes unnoticed by neutrals. People are keen to point out that van Dijk being out for Liverpool pretty much killed their season.

We've had more key players out of the team yet have still manage to grind out results. Which makes this season even more impressive.
